A stand-alone sheet of waterslide decals for 1:144 scale. It carries the so-called low-visibility form of the British markings, that is a variant deliberately designed not to be conspicuous on an aircraft. The package holds two identical sets.
A classic multi-color roundel is easy to read at a distance and for a long time that was desirable. With the arrival of gray camouflage the priority reversed, though, and the markings moved into subdued shades with minimal contrast against the surrounding paint. For a modeler there is a practical complication in that: a low-contrast decal on a gray surface does not have the strength to cover what is underneath it. When the surface is uneven, it shows through. That is why with this kind of marking it pays to level the surface first, to even out the shade in problem places and only then to apply the decal.
Low-visibility roundels often have fine gradations of shade and hairline outlines that practically cannot be reproduced by masking in 1:144. A decal solves that in one step and with no risk of paint seeping under a mask. The procedure is the usual one: a glossy surface, a close trim of the film, a brief soak, sliding it into place, drawing the water off from the center outward and pulling it down with a softener over rivets and panel lines. Given the low contrast, shine a light on the model at a sharp angle once it is dry and check whether a glossy frame of film is visible around the insignia. A final matte overcoat will reliably hide it.
This is a stand-alone decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints, varnish and softener are not included in the package.
