This is a set of self-adhesive masking templates for the plastic model of the A-20G Havoc in 1:32 scale. The templates are pre-cut to the shape of the parts, so that painting no longer calls for measuring, tracing and the laborious cutting of frames out of masking tape. It is not a model of the aircraft but an accessory used while painting one.
This set is double-sided, that is, it masks the glazing from the outside and from the inner face of the parts alike. That helps everywhere you can see into the model: the frames can be sprayed with interior color from the inside and the clear areas stay clean on both sides. A single-sided version is made as well, which covers only the outside. On a twin-engine aircraft in so large a scale, with glazing at several points of the airframe, the double-sided version makes sense.
The Douglas A-20 Havoc was an American twin-engine light bomber and attack aircraft of the Second World War with radial engines. The A-20G version differed from the earlier ones in a reworked nose: instead of the glazed navigator's position it was given a solid nose with fixed armament, which made it above all an attack machine for flying at low altitude. Besides the US Army Air Forces, the type also served with other Allied users.
First wash and degrease the clear part, so that the mask will hold. Carry the templates with tweezers and press them down over the whole area, especially at the edges, or the paint will creep under. Spray in several thin coats; one heavy coat gets under the edge of a mask more readily than three light ones. Lift the mask shortly after the paint has dried and draw it off at a slant across itself, not straight up. Put right any creeping with a pointed wooden stick moistened in water, not with metal, which would scratch the clear part.
The masks are an accessory for painting a model, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
