A mask set of two sheets for the Tiger II heavy tank with the production turret, 1:16 scale. Ideal for three-color camouflage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last German heavy tank of the Second World War combined a strong sloped armor plate with a long gun of 88 mm caliber. Production vehicles were given the Henschel turret, and from the autumn of 1944 they carried ambush camouflage: a base of dark yellow with brown and green fields, into which opposing spots were sprayed afterwards. Over a surface like that the national insignia were applied straight from the hand through a sheet-metal stencil, that is in exactly the way this set offers.
The box holds two masks for the national insignia. For a machine of this type that is usually enough, because the markings tended to be sparing: a pair of crosses and one or two numbers on the turret. The cut goes only through the adhesive layer, so the items come out whole and the sheet holds its shape even after the larger parts have been taken off.
On a mottled surface the main enemy is uneven coverage. Lay the markings on, then, only once the whole camouflage is done and cured, and put a light opaque base under white or black paint so that a dark spot does not show through under the marking. The film has to be pressed down well where it crosses the edge of a weld or the anti-magnetic mine coating. Spray square on, in two or three steps, and take the mask off before the film hardens. Finally rub the marking back partly with an abrasive sponge, because on these vehicles it was often only a few weeks old and quickly disappeared under dust and oil.
