The fifth variant of the spare wheel for a collection of accessories for the German heavy armored car. 1:16 Sd.Kfz 234 spare wheel type 5 adds to the chassis a piece that kits often overlook.
Responsibility details are not available.
A single part for builders of large models of German wheeled equipment. The range holds six renditions of the spare, and this is the fifth in order and differs in the tread pattern and in the design of the sidewall. In 1:16 scale the wheel reaches a size at which real modeling work can be done on it: a worn pattern, a scuffed rim, dried mud in the grooves. It is precisely such details that move a model from the category of a toy into a display case.
The vehicle was created at Büssing-NAG as a continuation of the older heavy armored cars, which had the same number of wheels but were built on a separate frame and were more ponderous. The new design combined the armored tub and the load-bearing structure into one whole, took weight off and added space for the crew. Production ran from 1943 until the end of the war and the vehicles reached units on both of the main fronts.
Pick the tread pattern out with a dry brush in a shade lighter than the base and darken the grooves instead. If you place the spare on the side of the hull, reckon with the surrounding surfaces casting a shadow over it, so grade the weathering, lest the part look stuck on afterwards.
The package contains nothing further; the painting is up to the modeler.
