The set is aimed at builders of 1:16 models of the German light half-track armored personnel carrier. According to the name it contains the front wheels and a spare to go with them, and the wheels carry a patch trodden by the weight of the machine. On a half-track this is a particularly rewarding detail: the front axle is the only part of the chassis with tires, so it is there that the viewer looks for proof that the vehicle presses real weight into the ground. The rendition number refers to the tread pattern used.
The Sd.Kfz. 250 was the smaller brother of the better known medium carrier. It was created on the chassis of an artillery tractor by Demag, the front steered axle stayed wheeled and at the rear ran a tracked suspension with sprung wheels. The vehicle took on a whole series of forms, from a plain squad carrier through a signals vehicle with a large frame antenna to a carrier for an anti-tank gun. It served with reconnaissance and engineer units and appeared as the command vehicle of senior officers as well.
First finish and glue the whole axle, and only then fit the wheels, so that you can level both flattened patches into one plane. Turn them slightly toe-in, as tends to be the case on a steered axle. Leave the spare circular and paint it a shade lighter, so that it stands apart from the dusty wheels below.
Paints and glue are not enclosed.
