The rear of the medium armored personnel carrier was always in motion. From here the vehicles towed anti-tank guns, light howitzers, trailers with ammunition and machines being recovered, and the towing gear therefore belonged among the most heavily loaded parts of the vehicle. This item is its separate rendition for a large-scale model, not a complete kit of the personnel carrier.
The Sd.Kfz 251 was built on the chassis of the Hanomag half-track tractor and became the main means of transport of the German Panzergrenadiers. It carried both the crew and a squad of infantry, served from the campaign of 1940 right up to the last fighting and saw four production renditions, which progressively simplified the shape of the armored body. Beside carrying infantry, however, it was used just as often as a tractor for light weapons, and that is the role in which the towing gear shows itself in all its glory.
Before gluing, check dry how the part sits on the rear panel and level the mating surface if need be. This is exactly where work with effects pays off most: the area around the hook used to be scuffed by chains and shackles, and a build-up of mud and dust collected on the lower edge. A combination of a dark wash, a dry brush and pigments will give the rear of the vehicle a convincing look.
