Pre-cut masks in 1:32 scale for the Tamiya kit of the P-51D Mustang fighter aircraft. It is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The one-sided designation means that the sheet covers the outer side of the glazing - precisely the side that is visible once the paint is on. Compared with the double-sided variant it is quicker to use; if you want the frames colored from inside the cockpit as well, reach for the double-sided version.
The P-51D was the most numerous version of the Mustang and at the same time the most easily recognized one: a teardrop canopy without a spine fairing gave the pilot an all-round view. Power came from a liquid-cooled V12, a license-built variant of the British Merlin engine, whose two-stage supercharger moved the performance of the aircraft up to high altitudes. A laminar-flow wing and the radiator in the ventral fairing are among the other recognition features of the type.
The 1:32 scale is large and the canopy frames are pronounced on it, so it pays to get them exact. First degrease the glazing and let it dry off. Lift a mask from the sheet with tweezers, lay it in place and press it with a soft tool from the center toward the edges - no air bubble must be left under a mask, as the paint would creep in there. Spray thin layers and let each one flash off in between. Remove a mask while the finish is not yet fully cured, and pull it slowly back over itself, not straight up. Adhesive residues can be removed with a cotton swab moistened in cleaning alcohol, clear of the transparent area.
The set is an accessory for the model. The Tamiya kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
