The set is a modeling accessory, not a kit. It holds self-adhesive masks cut in advance to the shape of the cockpit glazing of the F-86D in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, the masked area stays transparent and the frames are sprayed along with the rest of the airframe. The one-sided version is meant for masking from the outer side. The cut is based on the Revell kit; on a model from another manufacturer the set need not fit.
First wash the clear part and let it dry completely - on a greasy surface a mask will not hold and the paint will creep in. Peel a mask off the sheet with the tip of a knife or with tweezers, lay it in place and press it down with a soft tool, above all around the whole perimeter. Then comes a thin layer of base color, which at the same time seals the edge of the mask, and only after that the final shade. Take the masks off once the paint is dry, ideally pulling them away at an angle downward, not straight up.
Cutting frames by hand means transferring the shape from the part to the tape, cutting on the model and hoping the knife does not slip. A pre-cut set leaves that step out, and with it the risk of a score in the clear plastic, which is practically impossible to put right. Besides saving time, the main benefit is that all the frames come out the same width.
The F-86D was a single-seat interceptor version derived from the day fighter of the Sabre family. It carried radar in the nose and a different nose with a lowered air intake, which also gives it different cockpit shaping from an ordinary Sabre - the masks are therefore not interchangeable with sets for the day versions.
The set is cut for a particular kit of the type in question - check before buying that you have the matching model. The paints and the model are not included in the package.
