The real subject

The F-14 Tomcat is a two-seat twin-engined fighter aircraft with a variable-geometry wing that sets itself automatically in flight according to speed. The design came about for operation from aircraft carriers, which accounts for the sturdy landing gear and the massive tail section. After withdrawal from the US Navy the type remained in active service with only a single foreign user, which is also the reason for the name of this set.

How to work with the decals

Apply the decals onto a glossy surface only. Matte varnish is porous and air stays under the film, showing as a silvery haze around an insignia. The order is paint, gloss varnish, decal, softener, matte or semi-gloss overcoat. On the Tomcat there is a great deal of fine lettering and stencils, so work in sections and let each group flash off. Blot the surplus water away from the edge of a decal, not by wiping across its center.
