The L-29 is a Czechoslovak jet trainer on which whole generations of pilots learned to fly in the second half of the twentieth century — not only at home but in a number of other countries. The machine was built in large numbers and carried a great many different finishes and markings in the process, from plain training schemes through target tugs to striking civilian combinations. It is exactly this variety that makes it worth choosing decals for the L-29 separately from the kit.
It is a separate decal sheet for 1:48 scale. Its extent, that is, which machines are covered and whether technical lettering is included, is given on the box and in the instructions. Use that to check in advance that the sheet matches the version you want to build.
The usual procedure with sheets of this kind is the wet method. Before you wet the sheet, check in the instructions whether it is a self-adhesive version: a self-adhesive film that has been wetted is ruined for good, whereas a wet decal that has not been wetted can still be wetted later. With the wet method, first go over the surface with a gloss clear coat, cut the motif out with a narrow margin and dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds. Let it rest until it starts to slide on the paper, slide it into place, blot the excess water away and use a decal softener to settle it into the panel lines. Once it is completely dry, seal the surface with a clear coat in whatever sheen the finished model is meant to have.
For modelers who want to build their L-29 in markings other than those the box of the kit offers. The kit, paints, clear coats and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
