Soft Sandpaper 1200 Sponge is a U-STAR soft sanding sponge with grit 1200 — a very fine grade for finishing work, among other things when bringing the transparency back to clear parts.
Responsibility details are not available.
An abrasive on a flexible foam backing with grit 1200 according to the name. The combination of a soft base and a very fine abrasive makes this type of tool a finishing aid: it follows a shape, does not knock edges down into flat spots and leaves a surface only a step away from a shine.
Canopies, light covers and windows are often molded with a parting line across their whole face, or get scratched during handling. Sanding such a place down means dulling a transparent material and then gradually bringing it back — always through a series of ever finer steps, because none of them can remove scratches coarser than it makes itself. Grit 1200 in this range is one of the last sanding steps; after it comes only polishing with a paste or a polish and perhaps a dip in gloss clear, which closes the residual micro-scratches.
The flexible backing follows curved surfaces, so you simply lay it on a canopy or a cowling and run light strokes — the foam itself provides the pressure. Sand in one direction and turn the direction by roughly a right angle when moving on to the next, finer step: as soon as all the scratches from the previous direction have gone, the step is done and you can carry on. Keep checking the surface against the light and wiping it, because the material removed masks the real state of things. On clear parts work patiently; a step skipped then takes much longer to rescue than it would have taken to do.
