Working the wet way

Besides being applied dry, the pigment can also be worked the wet way. You tip a small amount of powder into a well of a palette or onto a piece of glass, add a drop of a suitable liquid and mix it into a thin slurry. You then apply that with a brush into the places you choose and let it dry freely. Once the liquid has evaporated, the pigment stays where you put it and holds more firmly than with a dry application.

The wet way is less forgiving than the dry one, because a dried application is harder to take off. So mix in small doses and apply a thinner mixture in several layers rather than one thick one. Palettes and glass plates are easy to clean once the slurry has dried, so you do not have to spoil a good mixing surface. Which liquid to use for mixing should be checked against what the finish on your model will stand, because that is what decides in this method.

Who the pigment is for
