Aging Enamel Powder Bronze

The U-STAR Aging Enamel Powder Bronze pigment

A loose pigment colorant from the Aging Enamel Powder range of the U-STAR brand. The powder is applied to a finished and dry model and changes the character of its surface without a whole area having to be repainted. The shade is named in the name of the product. Check the volume of the package and the composition of the powder on the box.

Combining several shades

Pigments work on their own, but you only get real depth when you use several of them on one model. A single shade rubbed evenly over a whole area looks artificial, because in nature a deposit of dirt, dust or sediment is always uneven. So work in layers: first one tone over a larger area, then a second only into chosen places and perhaps a third as a small accent. Soften the transitions between them with a dry brush, so that no sharp boundary appears between the tones.

The shades can also be blended before application. Tip a small amount of each powder onto a piece of white paper or into a well of a palette, mix them with a spatula or a brush and work from the resulting mixture. Mix rather more than you estimate you will use. Hitting the same ratio a second time is difficult and the difference will show on the model.

Use

• weathering finished models of vehicles, aircraft, ships, figures and diorama accessories
• layering with other shades in the range for an uneven and more believable result
• blending the powders on a palette or on paper into a tone of your own
• applied dry with a soft brush, ideally on a matte surface

Who the pigment is for

For the modeler who has mastered basic weathering and wants to go further than one all-purpose tone. Buying two or three shades from one range makes practical sense, because they behave the same way and blend well together.

A loose powder: do not inhale it, work out of a draft, open the container over a surface and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
