Pure Green

Pure Green, a paint for dry brushing from AMMO of Mig Jimenez

The product carries the shade name Pure Green. It is a paint from the range that the manufacturer has set aside for the dry brushing technique. It is not a kit or an add-on to a model but a coloring product for the finishing stage of the work. The name of the shade is the only detail the name of the product carries.

How the dry brushing technique works

A small amount of paint is taken onto the brush and the vast majority is wiped off straight away into a paper tissue or a cloth. Only a minimum of pigment stays on the brush. When you then run the brush lightly and across the surface of the model, the paint catches only on what stands out from the surface: on edges, rivets, seams, projections of the casting and on coarse texture. Recesses and smooth areas stay untouched. The eye reads the resulting contrast as light falling from above and the model stops looking flat.

How to apply the paint

• The surface should be dry, matured and ideally flat; on a glossy surface the paint smears.
• Take a minimum of paint and wipe it into a tissue before you touch the model with the brush.
• Work in short strokes across an edge, not along its length.
• Check the progress in good light and from a distance; the effect is judged on the whole model, not close up.
• Add in layers. You cannot take away, but you can add.

Who it is for

For modelers who finish a model after the base coat and want to lift the relief, and for painting figures and surfaces with pronounced texture. The technique is undemanding in equipment and is among the first finishing methods a modeler learns.
