TERRAFORM Desert Stone Thick - a coarse scatter for desert terrain

A loose scatter material from the TERRAFORM range of the Spanish brand AMMO of Mig Jimenez. It is not a model and not a finished scenic object but a material you pour onto a diorama, a display base or a wargaming base and fix in place yourself. The Desert Stone version is aimed at dry and desert landscape: stony plains, dry washes and the edges of roads without vegetation.

The Thick designation marks the coarsest grade within the range. In a desert scene coarse grain suits above all the washes and the edges of eroded slopes, where water has carried the fine material away and left the stones behind. Out on the open plain it is better to keep the surface finer and to use the coarse pieces only as an accent.

Use

• Shape the terrain from a base compound first and let it cure; the scatter goes onto the finished shape.
• Lay the coarse pieces out dry, check the composition and only then fix them, usually with thinned PVA glue with a drop of detergent.
• Fill the gaps between the stones with a finer grade; the transition between grain sizes is what makes the scene believable.
• Even the shade out only once it is dry: washes bring out the texture and a dry brush draws out the edges of the stones.
• Set the vegetation, the dry tufts and the model itself in place at the very end.

Who the material is for

For builders of dioramas and display scenes in any scale, for wargamers who build their own bases and gaming terrain, and for railway modelers as well. The coarse grade pays off most in larger scales, where an individual stone reads clearly in the finished scene.

The volume of the package, the weight, the exact shade and the make-up of the granulate do not follow from the product name; check them in the manufacturer's data sheet. Work with loose materials in a ventilated area and do not inhale the dust.
