TERRAFORM Crushed Brick Thick, coarse scatter for ruins

A loose scatter material from the TERRAFORM range by the Spanish brand AMMO of Mig Jimenez. It is not a model and not a finished scenic object, but a material that you pour onto a diorama, a display base or a wargaming base and fix in place yourself. The Crushed Brick version is aimed at urban scenes: broken masonry, the wreckage of buildings and rubble along damaged structures.

The designation Thick marks the coarsest grade within the range. In wreckage, a coarse grain is the key, because it is the recognizable fragments that turn a scene into a demolition site, while even dust reads more like a dusty floor. Place coarse rubble, therefore, where it should be obvious that masonry has fallen somewhere.

Use

• Build the ruin or the terrain first and let it cure; the rubble is poured only onto the finished shape.
• Lay the heaps out dry, check how they sit against the wall, and only then fix them, usually with thinned PVA glue and a drop of dish soap.
• Pile the rubble into cones at the foot of the wall and follow the logic of the collapse rather than spreading it evenly over the surface.
• Fill the gaps between the coarse pieces with a finer grade and with dust.
• Match the shade only after it has dried: washes, filters and pigments tie the rubble to the masonry and to the terrain.
