Black Marble - Square Die-Cut Tiles

Black Marble - Square Die-Cut Tiles, square pieces with a black marble motif

It is not a model and not a scenic object, but a flat material to put under a model. The black marble motif comes here in the form of pre-cut square pieces that are assembled into a surface like paving, under a finished model, a figure or a bust.

What it is used for

Laid squares read differently from a continuous sheet: the surface has visible joints and a regular rhythm, so it looks like the real tiling of a presentable floor. That suits busts and figures in interior scenes, vehicles in a display case and the surface of a plinth of its own.

How to work with the material

• Lay the pieces out dry first and only then fix them; with a laid surface it pays to start from the center and work outward, so the joints come out symmetrical.
• Watch the right angles: on a regular grid even a small rotation shows at once, and drawing guide axes on the backing helps.
• Choose the attachment to match the backing: double-sided tape or a glue suitable for the material, while in a display case simply laying it down is often enough.
• Deal with the edge of the surface with a strip or an overlap past the edge of the plinth, so that the cuts in the pieces do not show.
• Keep the dark surface clean, because dust and fingerprints are more pronounced on it than on a light backing.

Who it is for

For figure and bust modelers, collectors of display models and anyone who wants a plinth with the look of laid marble tiling without making it themselves. The range also offers a continuous sheet and other marble motifs.
