TABLETOP BRUSH – 2

Tabletop Brush 2, a synthetic brush by AK interactive

A synthetic brush in size 2 from the Tabletop range by AK interactive. It is a tool, not a paint: size 2 is the all-purpose middle that covers most of the work on a figure and on a smaller model, from the base areas to the more pronounced detail.

Use

• Synthetic fibers cope well with acrylic paints, which are harder on natural hair; the brush therefore suits ordinary everyday painting.
• Pick the paint up only into the front part of the hair, because paint that runs as far as the ferrule splays the brush and the point is gone for good.
• Do not stir paint with the brush in a cup and do not scrub it against the bottom, as that is the quickest way to ruin the hair.
• After work, wash the brush out in lukewarm water, or with a brush soap, and let it dry point upward or lying flat.
• Keep a separate older brush for rough surfaces, dry brushing and applying pigments, because that work wears the hair.

Who the brush is for

For players and modelers who paint figures and models with acrylics and need a reliable working brush of medium size. It serves as an everyday tool alongside finer sizes for detail and wider brushes for large areas.

Synthetic hair has a different character from natural hair: it is springier and copes better with acrylics and with frequent washing, but it holds a smaller reserve of paint. In practice that means picking paint up more often and working with thinner paint, which rather benefits figures, because thin coats keep the detail. New brushes tend to have the hair stuck together with a sizing agent; that dissolves in lukewarm water and the hair opens out into its original shape, so do not be put off by the first soaking.
