The kit captures the Australian conversion of the M113A1 armored personnel carrier into the MRV, that is into a machine intended for reconnaissance and for direct fire support. AFV Club has worked on the M113 family for a long time and offers several of its Australian versions, so the model follows on from a proven range. Check the exact contents of the package, the number of parts and the decal schemes offered against the details given on the box.
The M113A1 MRV was created by mounting a turret with a 76 mm gun, taken from the British Scorpion light reconnaissance vehicle, on the aluminum hull of the M113A1 carrier. The vehicle thus combined the mobility and low weight of a tracked carrier with firepower that the carrier armed with a machine gun could not offer. Power comes from a diesel engine mounted at the front right, the running gear consists of five road wheels on each side, and the drive sprocket is at the front. With the Australian Army the MRV supplemented the carrier units in the reconnaissance and support role.
Finish and paint the running gear and all the detail inside the hull before you close the hull up, or you will no longer be able to reach them. It pays to spray a filler primer, the base shade over it, and only then to work on shading the surfaces. Build and paint the turret and the barrel separately from the hull; masking is then easier. For the weathering use a dark wash into the pressings and the rivet detail, and pigments for dust and mud around the running gear, the fenders and the lower part of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
