Aichi D3A1 Val – STENCILS 1:32 (Art Scale)

This is a set of waterslide decals with a range of technical stencils for a model of the Japanese carrier dive bomber Aichi D3A1 Val in 1:32 scale. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Art Scale, which specializes in fine printed decals. The set contains the small service, warning and maintenance lettering that kits usually do not supply in sufficient quantity, and it therefore markedly raises the credibility of a model's surface.

The real subject

The Aichi D3A was a single-engined dive bomber with fixed landing gear, deployed in the Pacific from the opening operations through to the later phases of the war. Its characteristic features are the elliptical wings and the aerodynamic fairings over the landing gear wheels. The technical stencils on the real machine marked filler necks, access panels, hoisting points and safety instructions for the ground crew.

Application

• The decals are applied in the classic way, by soaking in lukewarm water and moving them onto a surface prepared with varnish.
• A glossy base under the decals is recommended, with fixing by decal softener and decal fixer.
• Once dry, the surface is coated with a matte or semi-gloss clear varnish.
