A set of color 3D decals intended for detailing the cockpit of the F-35A Lightning II combat aircraft in 1:48 scale. The decals are glued directly onto the plastic interior parts, they have relief and they are printed in color, so they do away with the laborious painting of instruments and panels. The set is cut for the F-35A kit from Meng — sets of the same type for models from other manufacturers are also made, so when choosing, check which kit you are building. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for one.
The F-35A Lightning II is a single-seat multirole aircraft with conventional takeoff and landing, that is the basic variant of the F-35 family. It is powered by a single Pratt & Whitney F135 engine. The cockpit differs fundamentally from older fighters: instead of the classic array of dials and smaller displays it is filled by one large panoramic touchscreen, so the front part of the cockpit is the most striking detail on a model. It is exactly such an area that is easier to do faithfully with a color relief decal than with a brush.
Clean and degrease the interior parts; the surface should be smooth. Soak the decal briefly in lukewarm water, let it release from the backing and slide it into place. Fine-tune the position with a soft brush, blot the excess water away and let it dry thoroughly. Dose the softener carefully, so that the decal presses against the shape of the part without losing its relief. Assemble the cockpit and fit the decals before the fuselage is closed up.
