3D decals for the cockpit of the F-35B Lightning II in 1:72 scale for the Hasegawa kit — color relief printing of the large-area display and the side consoles.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of three-dimensional decals for the interior of a plastic model of the F-35B Lightning II in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory: besides printed color the decals also carry a layer of firm relief, and they are applied directly onto the plastic cockpit parts. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit — variants of the same set exist for several different kits, and without that detail a customer could not tell them apart.
The Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II is the single-seat version capable of short takeoff and vertical landing. It carries a lift fan behind the cockpit and a swiveling nozzle at the rear, so it can also operate from the decks of smaller ships. The cockpit matches the concept of the whole F-35 family: the grouped dials have been replaced by a single large-area touchscreen across the whole width of the panel. Such a surface can barely be painted in 1:72 scale, whereas color printing with relief solves the graphics and the framing at once.
Spray the cockpit parts with the base interior color and let them dry thoroughly. Cut the decal out close to the edge, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and transfer it with tweezers; the areas are small, so good light and a magnifier pay off. The relief layer is thicker than on an ordinary decal — let it settle slowly into the shape of the part and press it gently with a cotton swab. Dose the softener drop by drop, or the relief risks rippling. Leave the display rather semi-gloss, as a matte coat would take away the impression of a lit screen.
