The M88A1G is the German version of the American M88A1 tracked recovery vehicle, a machine built to tow and repair heavy equipment in the field. This SX-Art accessory in 1:35 scale takes care of its optics: it gives the vision ports and the instrument lenses a shifting rainbow shine. The kit and the plastic parts are not included.
Recovery vehicles turn up in collections less often than tanks, yet in dioramas they play the leading part: the work goes on around them, figures stand beside them, and the viewer therefore comes closer to them than to a model in a case. It is exactly at close range that you see whether the vehicle has living optics or black patches. Since the surface of such a machine tends to be dusty, grimy and knocked about by work, the contrast with shiny optics works even more strongly than on a clean model.
The film is not painted or clear-coated. It goes on at the very end, after the pigments and mud effects, which in this class of vehicles are usually heavy. Wipe the seat of the vision port dry beforehand. Use tweezers and a soft stick, not a fingernail and not your fingers.
