SX-Art mask set for the Su-24 in 1:48 scale brings pre-cut self-adhesive masks for spraying the frames of the glazing of the two-seat cockpit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut self-adhesive masks from SX-Art for a model of the Sukhoi Su-24 combat aircraft in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto the clear part, sprayed over with paint and lifted off once dry. It is not a kit and not a set of parts to be glued.
The Su-24 is a two-seat aircraft with the crew seated side by side, so the cockpit is wide and the canopy has prominent frames. On this type the glazing is one of the first things to be dealt with: until it is masked the camouflage cannot be sprayed, and once the spraying has begun there is no room left for masking afterwards. The practical sequence is therefore to mask the glazing right after the airframe is glued together and before the primer coat. The mask also keeps the clear part protected throughout the painting, the sanding and the weathering, so it is not scratched or soiled.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm water with dish soap, let it dry in the open and do not touch it with bare fingers. Lift the parts off the sheet with a sharp knife and press them down with a toothpick, above all around the perimeter. Before the camouflage, give the frames the interior shade; the transition then looks convincing even through the glass. Spray perpendicular to the surface and in thin coats. Take the mask off only once the paint has dried, and at a shallow angle backward; if you have clear-coated the model, run the sharp tip of a knife along the edge of the mask first so that the clear coat does not tear into the surface.
