A mask for the walkways of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in 1:35 scale from Omask. It is used to spray the non-skid strips at the wing root instead of applying decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
A self-adhesive mask from Omask intended for spraying the walkways, that is the marked walking surfaces at the wing root of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter. It is not a decal and not a part to be glued: the mask is stuck onto a finished painted surface, the color of the walkway is sprayed over it and the mask is lifted off once dry.
On a real aircraft a walkway is a rough non-skid surface, not a glossy sticker. A decal is commonly used for it, but it has two weaknesses: the carrier film tends to reveal itself on matte camouflage as a glossy outline, and at the wing root, where there are usually engraved panel lines and rivets, a decal settles poorly even with a softener. A sprayed surface does not have this problem, because the paint follows the relief, is matte in itself, and the transition is exactly as crisp as you need. In 1:35 scale the area is also large enough for the difference to show.
Mask only onto dry and firm camouflage; ideally let the base color rest so that the mask does not bite into it. Before sticking the mask on, press it onto the back of your hand and lift it off a couple of times, which reduces the tack so that it will not lift the layer beneath. Lay the part on dry, align it against the leading edge and only then press it down. Apply the walkway color in a very thin coat and rather in several passes, so that no ridge you can feel forms at the edge. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried, at a shallow angle backward.
