Pre-cut masks for a model of the F-80C fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Peewit. The masks are stuck onto the areas that are to stay clean during spraying and are removed once the paint has dried. In a small scale this is a great help: the cockpit frames here are so small that cutting strips out of masking tape by hand tends to be a lottery. It is not a model and not parts for a kit, but an accessory for the painting stage.
The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first American jet fighter to enter regular operational service. It had a straight wing, a single jet engine in the fuselage and characteristic wingtip tanks. The F-80C version was the last and most powerful production fighter variant. At the beginning of the Korean War it served as both a fighter and a ground-attack aircraft, and it is precisely with it that the first combats between jet aircraft are connected. The straight wing soon pushed it into the role of attacking ground targets and into training.
Wash the clear part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry, as a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Lay the masks with tweezers or the tip of a scalpel and press the edges down, so that paint does not run under them. Spray thin coats; with small frames at this scale it goes doubly that a heavy coat makes a step on the edge. Remove the mask shortly after it has dried and at a slight angle. It pays to spray the cockpit shade under the frame color first, so that an edge showing through does not give the base away.
The set is an accessory for painting a model. It does not contain a kit or paints.
