A fantasy bust from the Oda Models author's line under the Green Stuff World heading. The 1:12 scale is the established format for busts and means that the model captures the figure roughly from the chest up. A preacher subject stands or falls on the expression and on the cloth. The robe and its folds take up most of the area, so it is exactly on them that it shows whether a painter can work with light.
A collector's model of this kind deserves honest preparation before painting. Clean it of casting residue, remove the sprue gates and gently sand the mold seams down, so that they do not appear under the paint. If the model is in parts, try the parts dry first, and only then join them and fill and sand the resulting gaps with modeling putty. Then unify the whole surface with a primer, ideally from a can or with an airbrush in thin coats, so that the detail is not lost.
Textile is the main discipline here. Lay the base tone darker than you want the result to be and build the highlights over several thin coats only on the tops of the folds. Let a dark wash run into the recesses, but blend it out at the edges right away, as a sharp edge of wash on cloth gives a shortcut away. If you treat the robe in a single color, liven it up with a glaze in a slightly different tone, otherwise it looks flat. Leave the face until the end and bet on the expression, as with a preacher it carries the whole story of the model. Unify the finished bust with matte varnish and leave only the eyes and the metal details glossy.
