A themed set of Green Stuff World acrylic paints whose tuning, according to the name, heads for the desert: for sand, parched stone and a dry environment. Acrylic is thinned and cleaned with water, which is practical with schemes where there is a lot of moving between thin coats and a lot of drybrushing.

Why a desert palette comes in handy

The desert is a rewarding environment because it has almost no saturated color. The whole scene plays out in a narrow band of ocher, beige and gray-brown, and that is exactly why every contrast stands out on it: a dark crack between stones, faded cloth, a patch of green. For a modeler that means a matched palette pays off more than with colorful subjects, because randomly chosen shades would immediately overpower the whole in such a narrow range.

Use

• Shake before use, as with earthy shades the pigment settles particularly quickly
• Lay the base area with an airbrush after thinning and finish the detail with a brush
• With sand and stone a dry brush is more effective than classic shading
• Fading of cloth is done by a lighter shade of the same color applied from above
• Paint the base and the figure together, so that the scene holds together

For painters of figures, wargaming armies and terrain who build a desert or generally parched environment. It also serves well on bases, ruins and scenic accessories that are meant to have the same cast as the figure on them.
