A cork roadbed under S track from Green Stuff World raises the line above the terrain and cushions it, so that the running of a train is noticeably quieter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cork strip is glued onto the baseboard of the layout and the track is laid on top of it. The line thus does not sit directly on the hard baseboard but on a resilient layer, which absorbs vibration and damps noise, and at the same time it gains the profile of a ballast bed standing out above the surrounding terrain. This package is intended for S scale, that is, for a model railroad in 1:64 scale.
Why cork in particular
Cork is light, is easily cut with a sharp knife and holds its shape on a curve without springing back. It practically does not move with moisture, so the track does not warp under it. The rough surface moreover holds ballast as well as paint well.
For modelers building a layout in S scale and for makers of dioramas where the line is meant to stand out above the surrounding terrain. It is glued with PVA wood glue or with contact adhesive, and with PVA gluing weight the strip down until the glue has dried. Once dry, the edges can be sanded with sandpaper into the slope of an embankment, so that the transition into the terrain is not sharp.
Cork is a natural material, and the shade and the texture may differ slightly from package to package. Before gluing, rid the surface of dust, so that the glue holds.
