A masking set for a model of the Saab J-35 Draken in 1:48 scale. The designation double-sided means that the masks are cut for the outer and the inner side of the glazing alike, so the frames of the cabin can be sprayed from the outside in the airframe color and from the inside in the interior color. The set is an accessory to the build. The set is intended for Hasegawa kits.
The Saab J-35 Draken was a Swedish supersonic fighter with an unusual double delta wing, which gave it a characteristic silhouette. It arose in the 1950s for the defense of Swedish airspace and in various versions it flew for several further decades. The cabin sits high on a slender nose and the canopy is clearly visible from all sides, so on a model it belongs among the main places the eye goes to.
Spray the inner sides of the glazing first and let them cure thoroughly, and only then glue the part into the fuselage and mask the outside. Never glue transparent parts with an ordinary solvent cement for plastic, it would fog them. Lay the mask in place dry with tweezers, settle its position and only then press it down around the edge. Apply the paint in thin coats and remove the masks shortly after it dries to the touch. If a little paint does get under the edge after all, it can be scraped away carefully with a toothpick while the paint is fresh.
