This is a modeling accessory, not a kit. The sheet contains pre-cut masks of kabuki-type paper masking tape, cut for models of the American carrier-based Hornet in the A and C versions in 1:72 scale. One set thus covers two related single-seat variants. The BASIC designation defines the range, that is, the smallest of the three levels offered by the New Ware brand.
The A and C versions differ from each other mainly in equipment and electronics, but the outline of the cockpit canopy stayed the same. For a modeler that means the set is usable regardless of which of the two variants is being built at the moment, and it pays to keep the unused remainder of the sheet for the next build. Put it back on its original backing, into a resealable bag and out of direct light; the tape keeps its tack for a long time.
The F/A-18 Hornet is an American carrier-based multipurpose aircraft that combined the fighter and attack roles in one airframe. It served with the Navy and the Marine Corps and also became an export type for a number of allied countries. The structure is adapted to operation from aircraft carriers, that is, reinforced landing gear, an arrestor hook and folding wingtips. The C version was a modernization of the original A version with extended night and all-weather capability.
Degreased and dry glazing is essential, or the mask will not hold and a tint will appear under the edge. Seat the pieces dry with tweezers and press them down only after checking the position. First spray the interior shade of the frames, then the base and finally the two-tone gray scheme typical of this type. If you are flattening the model, remove the mask before the final coat, so that the transition between the glazing and the frame does not stay matted.
