About product

Fokker Dr.I (1:24, I Love Kit)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the legendary Fokker Dr.I fighter triplane in the exceptionally large 1:24 scale from the maker I Love Kit. The large scale reveals rich detail of the engine, the cockpit and the structure of the airframe and makes the finished model a striking centerpiece of a display case. The set holds decals for period markings. The model is supplied as a plastic molding; glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package.

The real subject

The Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker was a German fighter triplane of the First World War, which entered history above all as the aircraft on which the most successful fighter pilot of the war, Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, scored his last victories and was killed. Three short wings arranged one above the other gave the Dr.I excellent climb and agility, if at the cost of lower speed. Despite a fairly short production career the Fokker triplane became one of the best known aircraft of the whole First World War.

Building and painting tips

A large triplane will reward the modeler who is confident about rigging; stretch the bracing and cables between the wings and to the fuselage with a thin thread only once it is varnished. Paint and fit the richly articulated rotary engine and the cockpit before closing the fuselage, as in a large scale they are perfectly visible. Use a thin cement on the plastic, prime the areas and spray with an airbrush. Bring out the fabric covering with a fine wash and a hint of stitching along the ribs. Apply the period markings onto a gloss base and draw the joints down with a setting solution.

Who the model is for

  • For lovers of First World War aircraft and of the history of the Red Baron
  • For collectors who want a large centerpiece for a display case
  • For anyone interested in period triplanes and their construction
  • For more experienced modelers who can manage rigging in a large scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
