A large injection-molded plastic kit of the British First World War fighter biplane Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a in the striking 1:24 scale from I Love Kit. Thanks to the large scale the model offers a richly worked surface, a detailed cockpit and engine and enclosed photo-etched parts. The large scale puts the emphasis on the bracing wires between the wings and the control cables, which give the machine its characteristic look. The S.E.5a was one of the best British fighters of the closing period of the First World War. It combined good speed, stability and a sturdy structure, thanks to which it became the favorite platform of many Allied aces. It was powered by a V-type Hispano-Suiza engine (with a reduction gear in the later versions); at first, however, there were problems with engine deliveries. Together with the Sopwith Camel it formed the backbone of British fighter aviation in 1918.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched items with cyanoacrylate. Paint and emphasize the interior and the engine before you close the fuselage — in the large scale they really show. The most demanding step is the rigging: create the control cables and the bracing wires between the interplane struts from fine thread or elastic material only after painting. Emphasize the fabric surfaces with gentle shading and, after the decals, add a restrained wash and service wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories beyond the contents of the box are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
