This is not an aircraft model but an accessory set of photo-etched parts for a Spitfire Mk.IXc kit in 1:24 scale. Photo-etch replaces the places where injection-molded plastic is inherently too thick: thin sheet metal, grilles, catches, buckles, fine controls. In a large scale the difference is visible at first glance, because the model is big and the viewer looks at it from close up. Check the exact make-up of the set, the number of parts and the particular kit it is cut for on the box.
Photo-etched sets of this kind raise the level of detail without interfering with the shape of the model. Typically they concern the areas that are visible on a finished model, that is the cockpit, the landing gear bays and the outer surfaces with fine equipment. In 1:24 scale they are also easier to work with, because the individual parts are larger than in small scales and are easier to bend and to set into a bending tool.
Separate the parts on a hard surface with a sharp knife or nippers; never tear them out of the fret. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, so that the edge is crisp and straight. Degrease the surfaces before gluing and spray bare metal with primer, otherwise the paint will not hold. Glue with super glue applied with a pin in a minimal amount; on larger parts a two-part adhesive proves useful, as it allows the position to be adjusted. The corresponding plastic parts from the kit usually have to be sanded away first, otherwise the photo-etch will not seat. Finish the cockpit before you close up the fuselage.
