This is a set of pre-cut masking parts for modelers, not a kit of the airplane. The masks are shaped to fit the MiniArt Thunderbolt kit in 1:48 scale and are applied to the canopy glazing and to the surfaces that are to stay clear after spraying. The marking one-sided, that is, single-sided, means that the set covers the outer side of the glazing; the inner side is masked by hand, or with a closed canopy is not dealt with at all. Anyone who wants a correctly framed cockpit even seen from the inside reaches for the double-sided variant of the same set.
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a Pratt and Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine with a turbocharger, thanks to which the aircraft held its performance even at great altitudes. The P-47D-25 production block brought a cut-down fuselage spine and a bubble canopy, which fundamentally improved the pilot's view to the rear; the older blocks had a framed canopy and a full spine. The RE suffix refers to the parent plant at Farmingdale. Thunderbolts served as escort fighters for bomber formations and were famous above all as fighter-bombers against ground targets, where a rugged structure and heavy armament helped them.
Degrease the glazing before applying the masks and handle them with soft-jawed tweezers. Press an applied mask down along the whole edge of the frame with a toothpick or a wooden skewer so that paint does not run under the rim. With a bubble canopy it pays to spray several thin coats rather than one heavy one, otherwise a visible step stays at the edge of the mask. Remove the mask while the paint is only dry and not cured for several days, and peel it slowly back over itself, not straight upward.
