The kit captures the American Clarktor 6 airfield tow tractor in the Mill-33 military version in 1:32 scale. What makes this scale interesting above all is that it matches large aircraft models, so you can stand the tractor right next to an aircraft in 1:32 and the scene will fit. Thunder Model also makes other versions of this machine in the same size.
The Clarktor 6 was a small four-wheeled tractor of American make that during the Second World War and after it was part of the ordinary equipment of military airfields. It was used to tow aircraft around hardstands, to move carts with ammunition, bombs and materiel, and for the small auxiliary jobs that large machinery would be wasted on. The design was simple and rugged: a low frame, an open driver's position and a massive towing hitch at the rear. Machines of this type served for whole decades, were widespread outside the military as well and turn up very often in period photographs of airfields, yet they appear in models only rarely.
A small tractor builds quickly, but that is exactly why it pays to spend time on the surface. Assemble and paint the frame and the drivetrain before you close everything up, because afterwards you cannot get at them. Lay the paint over a filler primer, and once it is dry accent the edges and the rivets with gentle highlighting. Airfield machinery used to be scuffed from everyday operation, so restrained scuffs on the hood, by the seat and on the towing hitch, plus light dust on the wheels, make sense. The model works excellently as an addition to a larger aviation scene or as a small piece on its own on a display shelf.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
