A plastic kit of the space pirate battleship Arcadia in 1:2500 scale from the Japanese maker Hasegawa. It is the so-called third ship, that is the third form of this well-known design, in the variant with enhanced offensive armament. The subject is fictional: it comes from the Japanese work of Leiji Matsumoto, in which the Arcadia is the flagship of the space pirate Captain Harlock.
The Arcadia is one of the best-known ship designs in Japanese science fiction. It is marked by an elongated hull, a stern reminiscent of a sailing ship and a prominent superstructure; the individual forms of the ship differ in the shape of the bow, in the arrangement of the superstructures and in the armament. Within this line the 1:2500 scale means a smaller and more compact version than the parallel 1:1500 line offers, which makes it a practical size for a display case.
With spacecraft it is the cleanliness of the surface and the legibility of the shape that decide the result. Sand the mold seams on the hull carefully and polish the surfaces before painting, otherwise they will show under a uniform shade. Paint in subassemblies and glue the superstructures on only once they are painted, because a brush reaches tight spots with difficulty. A fine panel wash run into the engraved lines helps bring out the breakdown of the large surfaces; in a small scale, however, choose a lighter tone so that the model does not turn gray. If the kit contains decals, apply them over a gloss base and finally unify the surface with a matte or satin varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
