The shape of the part decides the result
Paints with a shifting shade look best where a surface offers several differently angled faces at once. On a curved cowling, hull or helmet both tones appear side by side and the transition is legible at first glance. On a flat panel, by contrast, you will see only one position of the shade at any moment, and the effect shows only when the model is tilted. It pays to adapt to that in choosing which parts to use the shade on.
