1:72 Yugoslavian Somua S35 (w/ 6-pdr gun) is a plastic kit of the captured French tank in Yugoslav service, rearmed with a British gun, from the manufacturer S-Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This plastic kit captures an unusual variant of the French Somua S35 medium tank that appeared at the end of the Second World War in Yugoslavia: a captured vehicle rearmed with the British 57 mm anti-tank gun, known as the 6-pounder. The set in 1:72 scale from the label S-Model holds, besides the plastic parts, a metal barrel and decals with Yugoslav markings.
The Somua S35 was a successful machine for its time: a cast hull and turret, good armor and a 47 mm gun. After the defeat of France in 1940, hundreds of these tanks came into German hands and some of them served in the occupied Balkans. A few vehicles were captured by Yugoslav partisans, who had them rearmed with the British 6-pounders they were receiving from the Allies. This improvised combination, given the designation SO-57, served with the Yugoslav tank brigade at the end of the war and is one of the most interesting examples of how captured equipment was adapted to the ammunition available.
The small scale forgives less than it seems, so pay attention to sanding the cast surfaces cleanly and to setting the turret accurately. The metal barrel is rewarding: it is enough to degrease it and paint it with a primer for metal, or the paint will rub off in handling. The cast surface of the hull and the turret can be suggested with a textured primer. Partisan equipment tended to be simply painted and quickly worn, so you can allow yourself rubbed edges, dust and mud in the recesses of the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
