Miniature hexagonal nuts with a washer, 0.4 mm in size, from GAS HANS. They serve for what is called superdetailing, that is for replacing coarse or entirely missing fasteners on a model with parts that look like real bolt work. It is neither a kit nor an accessory for one particular model, but a universal modeling material.
Bolt work and nuts are everywhere on real machinery: on engine covers, on armor plates, on chassis frames, on the mountings of gun carriages, on railroad equipment and on aircraft engines and their cowlings. An injection-molded kit simplifies this detail, because a mold simply cannot manage a shape that fine. Replacing it with separate nuts is therefore one of the most effective ways of giving a model credibility in scale, and it shows in close-up photographs too.
The 0.4 mm dimension is among the finest and is suited above all to places where a larger part would look coarse, that is typically to smaller scales and to small detail. Work with fine-tipped tweezers, with good lighting and preferably with a magnifier. The parts are set one at a time, usually with cyanoacrylate applied in a minute amount on the tip of a piece of wire so that the glue does not run. It pays to think the layout out beforehand and to mark the positions with a fine pencil. You can paint them once they have dried, together with the rest of the model.
Paints, glue and tools are not included in the package.
