The A/S32-31A tractor is ground equipment of the US Navy that tows and moves aircraft on the deck of a ship and on the surfaces of land bases. It is joined to an aircraft with a tow bar at the nose gear and shifts it without its own engines having to run. Handling on a full deck is work to the centimeter, and the vehicle is built for precisely that.
In the larger 1:48 scale even what is lost in smaller sizes stands out on the tractor, so it suits as a pronounced element of a scene under the wing of an aircraft. Next to an assembled model it shows the size of the real subject and gives the scene action. It can also be built on its own as a small model on a display base.
Lay the parts on dry first and check the fit, and only then glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down, so that the edges stay clean. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. A suitable glue and the recommended procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Working equipment is as a rule scuffed and dirtied. In a larger scale it will take a graduation of shades, fine highlighting of the edges and a hint of deposits on the wheels without the model looking overdone.
It will be reached for by modelers who build deck and airfield scenes in 1:48 scale and want to show, alongside an aircraft, the equipment that moves it.
