This is not a kit of the aircraft but a mask set for a model of the Lockheed-Martin F-35B Lightning II in 1:48 scale from the Czech firm Eduard. The marking TFace is the maker's abbreviation for the version that deals with both sides of the glazing, the outer and the inner one. The frames then look right when seen into the cockpit as well, which on a model with the canopy slid back cannot be got around by anything. The manufacturer keeps the simpler version for the outside alone as a separate item.
The F-35B is the variant of the fifth-generation fighter with a short takeoff and a vertical landing. It is set apart from the other versions by the lift fan behind the cockpit and the swiveling nozzle at the end of the fuselage, both driven by a single engine, so the machine can operate from the decks of smaller carriers and from improvised surfaces. It carries its weapons in internal bays, which together with the shaping of the surface and with coatings lowers the radar signature. The cockpit is covered by a one-piece, markedly curved canopy without a cross frame, so the masking takes place mainly around the perimeter and on the front arch.
The inner masks are placed while the cockpit is still open, the outer ones only before the opaque paint is sprayed. The surface should be clean and degreased and the edges carefully pressed down. It is best to lift them soon after drying, while the layer of finish is still flexible.
