This is a sheet of surface elements for aircraft models in 1:48 scale. The elements add fine raised detail to a finished surface of the model, that is, the kind of thing a plastic part conveys only roughly and which disappears as the joints are sanded. Which motifs the sheet carries and where they belong is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The elements are transferred onto the model like a decal. The exact procedure, that is, whether the sheet is soaked and how long an element is left to settle, is given in the manufacturer's instructions and is worth following; once an element has been pressed down it is hard to move. The surface has to be smooth, clean and degreased in every case, otherwise the element will not seat over its whole area and the edge will lift once dry.
Lay the elements onto finished, dried paint, not onto bare plastic. They hold better on a gloss surface, and the edge of the carrier film is then less noticeable. Work in small sections and set the position right before you press an element down. Once dry, spray the whole area with a matte or semi-matte coat, which makes the transition to the surrounding surface disappear.
The set suits a modeler who wants a more varied surface on a model without having to scribe it or build it up laboriously. The work is calm, but it calls for tweezers, good light and patience while lining the edges up.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
