Wing nuts in the 1.2 mm size are an add-on set for vehicle models. They are set into a drilled hole in place of a molded lump and give a joint a legible shape with two wings.

An add-on set of small imitation wing nuts for military and civilian vehicle models. It is not a kit and not a model. A wing nut is used where the real subject is tightened by hand without tools, and on a model its shape makes it easy to recognize even though it is tiny.
Wings projecting to the sides are a shape that an injection mold with a parting line cannot render cleanly. On a standard part what is left is a flattened lump that, once the seam is sanded, often disappears entirely or leaves only a hint. A fitted part has both wings clearly separated from the body of the nut and holds its shape even under paint, when shallow relief is the first thing to be lost.
Cut the original detail off with a scalpel and sand the area. Mark the center with a point so that the drill does not slip, and drill the hole with a micro drill in a hand vise. Better to avoid a power tool at these diameters, as a small bit snaps easily in one. Set the part with tweezers, turn the wings and only then secure it with a minute drop of cyanoacrylate glue from the tip of a wire. Use as little glue as possible, or it will flood the gap between the wings and the nut will look like an ordinary button.
Choose the size according to the scale of the model. Because of its width a wing nut is conspicuous, and an error of size shows on it sooner than on a plain head. In this range the 1.2 mm designation belongs rather to the larger end, roughly between 1:48 and 1:35. Always offer the part up to the place on the model where it is to go.
