1:72 8.8 cm Pak 43 L/71 on the Panzer IV/70 chassis is a plastic kit of a German late-war tank destroyer project from UM.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit from UM captures a German late-war tank destroyer proposal that combined an 8.8 cm anti-tank gun with a barrel length of 71 calibers and the chassis of the Panzer IV/70 destroyer. The abbreviation Fgst in the name stands for Fahrgestell, that is chassis. Alongside the plastic parts the set holds photo-etched parts as well.
The Pak 43 with its long barrel was among the most effective German anti-tank weapons of the Second World War and was carried, among others, by the Nashorn and Jagdpanther destroyers. The Panzer IV/70 destroyer was based on the chassis of the Panzer IV tank and carried a 7.5 cm gun in a low casemate. The proposal the kit represents was to set the more powerful 8.8 cm gun on that proven chassis. It was one of the projects from the end of the war, when a way was being sought to get a more effective weapon onto series-built chassis quickly.
The long barrel is the most conspicuous feature of the model, so make sure that once glued it points straight and in line; check it from above and from the front. Even out the casemate with its large sloped faces with a base coat and build the late-war camouflage schemes in soft transitions. It pays to suggest the weld beads and the rougher texture of the armor, because in a small scale they give the surface a sense of scale and depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
