A sheet of decals in 1:24 scale for models of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IXc fighter from the Polish maker Techmod. It is an accessory for marking a model already built, not a kit. In the large 1:24 scale the decals are markedly bigger than usual and their quality shows on a finished model at first glance.
The Spitfire Mk.IX arose as a quick answer to the appearance of the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190, against which the older versions were losing their advantage. Into an airframe derived from the Mk.V was built a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage two-speed supercharger, which gave the aircraft back its edge at greater altitudes. The identifying features are a longer nose with four exhaust stubs on each side and a four-blade propeller. The letter c in the designation refers to the universal wing, which made it possible to carry either two 20 mm cannons supplemented by machine guns, or four cannons. The Mk.IX became the most numerously built version of the Spitfire and served with the RAF and with a number of Allied units including the Czechoslovak squadrons.
Decals hold best on a smooth gloss base, so varnish the surface under them with a gloss varnish beforehand. Trim the motifs as close to the printing as possible, soak them in lukewarm water and let them release from the backing, and only then transfer them onto the model. Large sheets curl easily, so handle them on a damp surface and move them with a soft brush. Once everything has dried, cover it all with a matte or semi-gloss varnish so that the glossy edge of the carrier film disappears.
