Wheel bay plugs are soft shaped fillers of flexible foam that go into the bays before painting. They work as a temporary bung: paint from the airbrush settles only on the outer surface and does not get inside the bay. That matters more than it seems — on jet fighters the interior of the bay has an entirely different shade than the outside, and given its depth and complexity overspray practically cannot be repaired. After spraying you pull the plug out and the bay is ready for its own color, a wash and the fitting of the landing gear.

This set has one further practical advantage: it is worked out so that it serves owners of kits from two different manufacturers — Trumpeter and Eduard. You therefore do not have to worry about whose box you have at home. Watch the scale: this item is in 1:48 and is intended for the MiG-19 S/PM kits from Trumpeter and Eduard. A separate version for the KP kit in 1:72 also exists — that is a different set, a different kit and a different scale and they are not interchangeable.

Use

• Put the plugs into the bays before spraying the primer, once the surrounding area is finished and filled.
• The flexible foam spreads inside the bay, holds by itself and closes even the corners tape will not reach.
• Leave the plugs in place throughout painting and clear coating.
• Once dry, pull them out — the inside of the bay stays clean and in its original color.
• No glue, no residue and no risk of damage to the plastic.
