This item is not a kit and not a finished model but a masking set in 1:48 scale from the New Ware brand. It serves to cover the areas that are to stay free of paint after spraying, which saves a great deal of time on the broken-up glazed nose of the Junkers. The name gives the designation kabuki masks and the EXPERT level, the widest of the levels of extent this brand uses. For the same aircraft the more limited BASIC level and a separate set for the national insignia exist as well.
The Junkers Ju 88 was among the most versatile aircraft of the Second World War: the Luftwaffe used it as a bomber, a dive bomber, a night fighter and a long-range reconnaissance machine. The Ju 88 P-1 version was created as an attempt at a destroyer of ground as well as air targets: under the fuselage it carried a bulky pod with a 7.5 cm cannon derived from an anti-tank gun. The weight of the weapon and the drag of the pod took away from the aircraft's agility, so the machines were built only in a limited series, and to this day they are among the most unusual forms of the type.
