A sheet of masks after the spraying of which the control surfaces of an A6M5 Reisen model in thirty-second scale look deflected.

Self-adhesive stencils for a large model of the Japanese A6M5 Reisen carrier fighter. Spraying a darkened tone along the defined outlines brings out a shadow on the control surfaces, thanks to which the finished machine comes across as if it had the surfaces deflected.
The A6M5 designation, that is the model 52, belongs to the most widespread version of the famous Japanese carrier fighter. It came about by revising the previous variant: the wing tips received a shorter and rounded shape with no folding, mainly because of a higher permitted speed in a dive. The exhausts were divided into individual short pipes led out obliquely to the rear, which added a little extra thrust. Despite all the revisions, the Zero remained a light structure with little protection for the pilot, which in the second half of the war told against it facing the new American types. Even so it remains one of the best known silhouettes in aviation history.
The light gray and the dark green schemes of the Zero react to shading differently, so on a dark surface lighten the tone rather than darken it. Lay the stencils on a completely cooled and dried finish. Deal with the wing tips and the control surfaces last, so that a finger does not leave a mark on them.
