An injection-molded plastic kit of an unassembled and unpainted model of the British Avro Lancaster heavy bomber in the B.Mk.I version. For a four-engine bomber, 1:32 scale is at the extreme end: the finished model has a large span and length and it is a typical flagship project for a display case. Before buying, it is worth checking that there is room for the assembled model as well as the space needed while building.
The Avro Lancaster was the main British heavy bomber of the second half of the Second World War. It came about by reworking the twin-engine Manchester into a four-engine layout with Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines. The B.Mk.I version was the basic production variant. The aircraft had a long uninterrupted bomb bay, thanks to which it could carry very large bombs, and it was used mainly on the night operations of Bomber Command. The defensive armament was concentrated in gun turrets.
On a model of this size it pays to build in subassemblies and to keep checking the fit, especially where the wing joins the fuselage. Paint and weather the interior, the bomb bay and the engine nacelles before you close them up. Mask the clear parts and the gun turrets and fit them at the very end, so that they do not pick up dust. An airbrush suits the large surfaces, and both the night finish on the undersides and the two-color camouflage on top are easier to manage in thin coats. Use a gloss varnish under the decals and then even the finished model out with a matte one. A sturdy base suits a model this large.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
